PDP crisis: Don’t go to Supreme Court – Mu’azu Aliyu tells Makarfi

The factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and the immediate past Governor of Niger state, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, yesterday met with former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, behind closed doors. But Aliyu has advised rival faction not to proceed to the Supreme Court for solution, saying political solution remains the only way out.

Welcoming Sheriff to the meeting before the doors were shut, the former military ruler expressed satisfaction with the former lawmaker’s comments after his victory at the Appeal Court few days ago.

He urged him to continue in ensuring that all aggrieved persons were brought back to the PDP fold, expressing confidence that members would reconcile all their differences.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Senator Sheriff described the meeting as fruitful, adding that he had reached out to the other factional leader, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, on the need to unite the party.

He said, “I have called Senator Makarafi and we are discussing on ways to come together and move the party forward in unity.”

Sheriff explained that he briefed IBB on the plan to reunite PDP, explaining that the former ruler was happy and had given him the support to reconcile all the warring parties.

Also speaking with journalists, former Governor of Niger state, Dr. Aliyu, said it was better for the party to avoid further litigations.

He stated, “actually, political issues shouldn’t be settled lawfully regularly. We ought to have found a political answer for every one of the issues we have had. There are numerous Nigerians who have been endeavoring to have achieved a political arrangement”.

He said after the interest court judgment, numerous individuals from the gathering were of the view that the look for political arrangement ought to be enlarged as opposed to running further with the case.
